Jon Eric Riis from Atlanta, Georgia is an Internationally known contemporary
fiber artist and a dealer in Asian textiles. As a fiber artist, Jon Eric has
exhibited his hand-woven tapestries throughout Europe and Asia. His tapestry
work can be found in numerous private and public collections including the the
Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Art Institute of Chicago, The
Minneapolis Institute of Art, Indianapolis Museum of Art, The Cleveland Museum
of Art, The New York Museum of Art and Design, and The Renwick Gallery of the
Smithsonian American Museum of Art. He is currently exhibiting at Thirteen Moons Gallery in Santa Fe.
Since 1976, Jon Eric has dealt in Asian Textiles with an emphasis on Chinese textiles, specifically those associated with past emperors, courtiers and officials of the Chinese Court during the Qing dynasty (16441911). He has a selection of formal, semiformal and semiformal domestic robes in the brocade, kesi and embroidered techniques. Additional Chinese collections include: rank badges, shoes, costume accessories, hats, and furnishing textiles such as hangings, cushions and chair panels. Other Asian textiles collections are from Japan, Korea, Tibet, and Bhutan. Examples from his collections can be found in the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Asian Art Museum and the de Young Museum in San Francisco, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
