Gilded Age to Modern Era Paintings: An Exhibition of European and American Fine Art

2/5/2010 - 2/27/2010

Spanierman Gallery, LLC

Galerie Werner, Pittsburgh, PA

Together with Galerie Werner, Pittsburgh, Spanierman Gallery will present the exhibition Gilded Age to Modern Era Paintings: An Exhibition of European and American Fine Art. The show will be held February 5-27 at Galerie Werner at 5829 Ellsworth Avenue, Shadyside, Pittsburgh.

Two evenings of cocktails and gallery talks will be held in association with the show:

Friday, February 26, 6-9 p.m. David Major, associate director, Spanierman Gallery, will speak on several artists, including Lithuanian-born, French-trained Aaron Harry Gorson, who found incomparable beauty in Pittsburgh nights in the early twentieth century, when effects of smoke and fire from blast furnaces along the Monongahela River comingled with fog and mist; Romanian-born, Canadian-trained Gershon Benjamin, who spent his career in New York City beginning in 1923, working in a mode similar to his close friend Milton Avery; and contemporary artist Sarah Lamb, whose meticulous still lifes in the tradition of Chardin, seem to consecrate forms of everyday life that emerge with a shimmering luminosity from darkened atmospheres.
